Three Free Sessions

Before committing to joining our amazing club, please attend a training session to get to know the coaches and other members of the club. Please contact us so that we can look out for you at our session. You can have up to three free sessions before having to become a member.

Membership Types

We have four membership options available. You can either join the club as a Affiliated First Claim member, Second Claim member, Associate member or Student member.

We encourage our members to be affiliated as this enables you to represent Billingham at all events and helps support athletics throughout England.

If you have any questions then please talk to a committee member on a club night or contact the membership secretary.

Affiliated First Claim - £32

Affiliated First Claim covers both your membership to Billingham Running Club and affiliation to England Athletics. Select this option if you wish to compete in races, receive entry discount (at least £2) from EA and be elligble for the London Marathon club entry.

If you are currently or have previously been affiliated then you will also have to complete the Change of Club process with England Athletics. There is a £10 fee for the transfer. You are exempt from the fee if you have not been affiliated for over three years.

Once transferred, if you are already affiliated for the current season, then you can now compete as a Billingham Running Club athelte. If you are not already affiliated for the current season then depending on when you join, your affiliation will either start immediately or be delayed until the 1st April.

If this is your first time being affiliated then your affiliation starts once we have processed your membership application and will continue through to the end of March.

Second Claim - £15

England Athletics define the rules of competition for athletics clubs generally and running clubs in particular. Most, but not all, road races in England are run under the England Athletics rules.

Under the rules an athlete may compete for up to two clubs. One of these is known as the First Claim Club and the other optional club is the Second Claim Club. Only the athlete’s First Claim Club can pay the athlete’s affiliation fee to England Athletics.

You can only have a Second Claim Club if you are affiliated by your First Claim Club.

If you compete in a race in which your First and Second Claim Clubs are in contention then you must represent your First Claim Club. If the competition does not offer a team prize then you may compete for either club.

This is most important for the Interclub and Cross Country races where there are team prizes but may affect other events.

Associate - £20

Associate Member covers your membership to Billingham Running Club without being affiliated to England Athletics.

Student - £5

Student Member is for individuals who are in full time education.

Membership Renewals

Membership renewals are due 21st March. New members joining after 1st January will have their membership extended until March the following year.
